Magic was in the air at Heage Primary School when youngsters took part in a webcast with Harry Potter actor Tom Felton.

Tom, who plays the evil Draco Malfoy in the wizard-themed films, answered questions submitted by children at the school while he was beamed live into the classrooms at the School Lane site.

Heage was one of just 12 schools around the UK which took part in the event, which was organised by Filmclub, an after-school scheme which allows children to learn about the world of film and showed them movies they may otherwise not have access to.

During the webcast, which was the first ever carried out by the club, Tom answered questions about Harry Potter, his acting career, and what comes next after the last film in the series is screened next July.

Heage Primary School teacher Jenny Phibin, who co-ordinates film club at the school, said: "The atmosphere was electric. The children loved talking to Tom and he answered lots of questions.

"A favourite question was when one of our boys asked if he was a real wizard and Tom joked along that he was for quite a while, had the children fooled but he soon owned up."

The Harry Potter film series is based on booked written by J K Rowling.

Heage was selected from around 4,000 schools around the UK to take part in the webcast.

The webcast was part of an initiative called Close Encounters, which lets members access leading figures in the world of film.
