National Mills weekend celebrates hard work of Heage volunteers.

Last weekend Heage was one of 450 windmills which took part in National Mills weekend.

The historic 200-year-old mill, on Chesterfield Road in the village, was open for guided tours for the weekend and visitors were able to sample bread and cakes made from flour milled on site.

A lot of preparation went into the event, on Saturday, May 8, and Sunday, May 9, but it was nothing out of the ordinary for volunteers at the mill, who work to open the attraction every weekend during the spring and summer.

Volunteer Lynn Allen said: "We enjoy it. There's not a lot of people who can say they love their job, but we wouldn't do it if we didn't."

To read more on the work done by volunteers at the landmark mill buy this week's Belper News, out on Wednesday, May 19.
